The Rhino Rumble has arrived!
Experience the rumble first hand and spend a beautiful moment with a 2 tonne Southern White Rhino.
In this shared experience you get to join the keepers as they head down to the Rhino yards for their daily interactions with Kifaru.
The activity of this exciting encounter changes daily, you could be joining him for an afternoon scratch and a chat, perhaps you are helping the keepers feed him his afternoon diet, you could even indulge him with a spa treatment and help give him a mud bath!
All proceeds from Rhino encounters will contribute towards the airfare for our second Rhino travelling from New Zealand in mid 2019.

- Online bookings need to be made 24 hours in advance, for today’s availability please contact the zoo on 03 5356 4668
- Minimum 6 years of age.
- Price does not include general admission but includes photos that we will email to you.
- All encounters are subject to availability.
- All participants must follow all instructions given by Halls Gap Zoo staff, failure to do so may result in a shortened session.
- Participants may be asked to cease the encounter at any time for whatever reason at Zoo staff’s discretion.
- Animals respond in different ways to different people and external factors, we cannot control this and experiences may vary.

OMG!! What an absolute honour to be able to get so close to this majestic beast! The keepers are fantastic and the whole zoo is an absolute credit to them all! I done this experience with my daughter 16 we got to feed rhu rhu and also give him pats and of course scratch his butt which he seemed to really enjoy 😉 an experience that will never be forgotten !!!!

What an amazing day. Rhu Rhu you are beautiful. The staff are great and full of knowledge explaining the breeding program. Would highly recommend my husband and I got to feed, pat and give Rhu Rhu a mud bath, has made for an unforgettable day.

A truly amazing experience, the grace and beauty of the Rhino, the varying skin textures, the soft cow like mouth and those kind almost puppy like eyes with puppy like behaviour, what a majestic animal. The keepers that looked after us were great, very knowledgeable and showed such a passion and love for this beautiful boy. So wrapped to have this opportunity with my wife. Cannot recommend this experience highly enough. Highlight s that we must do everything we can to stop the destruction of our worlds outstanding wild animal populations before it is all too late.

What an awesome experience to get so close to the new arrival Kapbamba. I did get a phone call the day before warning the encounter may not happen, as he had only arrived a couple of days earlier and was still getting used to his surroundings. I called the next day about this and next day the staff said “let’s give it a go”. I’m so glad they did. After a cautious start, Kabamba let us feed and pat him which was fantastic. For a Rhino that has had never experience encounters before, this made this more special to be one of the first to meet him close up. The staff are were great, they have so much passion and knowledge. This was a fathers day present from my kids and one I will never forget. He was brilliant and I can’t recommend this enough to do. I shall be back to see him again.

My Daughter and I attended Halls Gap Zoo for the first time and we loved it
The high lite was our experience in meeting Kifaru.
After a feed and plenty of pats my Daughter gave Kifaru a mud bath.
The experience was an amazing way to bond with this special animal and a memory my Daughter will never forget

Absolutely amazing, we got to pat and feed Pumba on our last visit to the zoo. He is a gentle giant and very keen to be fed his special grass. I could not believe I was actually able to touch his horn and feel his rough mud covered skin. It was a great experience.

We went to the zoo for the first time on 26/8/23 and it was spectacular. We had a rhino encounter and OMG it was just the best thing ever. Will certainly be going back next time we are staying in Halls Gap.
